For the past several years it has been my pleasure to work with you in this rapidly expanding industry. Together we have accomplished great things and have had some fun experiences. In the years I have been an independent consultant I have received many offers for full-time employment. I have always respectfully declined these offers since I was just having too much fun working for myself.
Recently I was offered a tremendous opportunity working with a top-notch team of web folks in the Atlanta area. After due consideration for the position and the people I would be working with, I have decided to accept this offer. Today I am starting my new position as a Technology Fellow with CNN Internet Technologies. In this position I will be exploring new technologies and trying to apply them to one of the busiest web farms on the Internet. This is a very high ranking position in the organization and I will be reporting directly to the Senior Vice President in charge of all of CNN Internet Technologies. Indeed the only downsides to this position are the commute and the complications it poses for child care.
What does this mean for Group Sys Consulting? I have intentionally "spun down" the organization, tapering off my obligations to current clients. I will continue to maintain the name and the web site, but will no longer be offering any services by contract. The web site will serve primarily as a distribution/archival location for Top and for my Unix Review articles.
For my clients this change will mean the end of a very fruitful and positive relationship. The company itself was never more than just myself, and as I go so will it.
Once again I want to thank everyone for the tremendous opportunities
and good experiences. Feel free to drop me a note any time.
